Welcome to Reflective Earth Lab, a new repository for promising ideas and technologies for reflectivity

Welcome to the RE Lab...

Increasing the Earth’s reflectivity (a.k.a. albedo) is  the fastest available lever for slowing global warming, and Reflective Earth (RE) is a new nonprofit organization whose mission is to slow climate change by increasing the reflection of heat away from the Earth as safely and quickly as feasible. We are a growing team of technologists, climate scientists, advocates and thinkers dedicated to exploring and experimenting with ways to act fast.
From new paint formulations for man-made surfaces to digital innovations that accelerate human intervention, our focus on reflectivity has generated significant new ideas for technologies that could increase the planet’s reflectivity. Many of these ideas and technologies can also contribute to helping communities to adapt to climate change.  In addition to slowing global warming, the application of technologies like highly reflective paints can significantly reduce the risks from extreme heat events at a regional scale while also reducing risks to local populations.  Agriculture around the world is already coping with drastic heat increases and reflectivity technologies already play a role in maintaining agricultural viability and productivity.
The Reflective Earth Lab is a place to bring all these ideas and technologies, no matter their state of readiness. We hope to be an authoritative repository for the most promising ideas and technologies for reflectivity, as well as a place to hash out the good ideas from the bad. Join us by commenting, taking up one of the many challenges in the Lab, or adding your own and inviting our community to see if it can make a big difference! Let's go...

Highlight or Propose a Technology

We seek to generate new technologies by:
• Identifying gaps where new technology might enable rapid, beneficial impact on reflectivity
• Promoting and disseminating proven technological solutions to increase reflectivity
• Showcasing inventions and helping industry find new solutions to integrate into their products
• Promoting discourse and collaboration on emergent reflective technologies
