Increasing the Earth’s reflectivity (a.k.a. albedo) is the fastest available lever for slowing global warming. Reducing release of greenhouse gasses, such as by reducing use of fossil fuels, is essential but will not be enough. Adding the capturing of greenhouse gases will still not be enough. While these should be pursued as quickly as practicable to the limit of their cost-effectiveness, we also need to increase Earth’s solar reflectivity to reflect energy from the Sun out to space by any method that is cost-effective and low risk.
